Money & Happiness: Are they related ?

Scientific studies show that Money and Happiness are related. Residents in developed economies are generally happier than those ones ranking low in the economy. Having money in the bank or a stable source of income gives a sense of security. Entrepreneurs feel that they contribute to society and therefore, they are happier than those who are employed.

People who could spend time doing activities they love also feel happier. This could be individual or group sports. An excursion, tour, or vacation can bring change that unleashes creativity. Get to gather with family and friends can also break the routine work life and boredom arising from it. Old memories of school, college, or workplaces re-ignite happy moments, and so school, college reunions, ex-company mates dining together are exciting.

Meditating and finding a quiet time daily is also practiced by many. Solitude brings in equanimity and relieves stress caused by many situations beyond one’s control. Spiritual retreats are getting popular, but only a few have the time to go for it. Most people are stuck in the daily grind, and there is a big to-do list, which does not allow even the luxury of such thought.

There is a direct correlation between money and happiness, but this exists only to a point. Then, it has a deteriorating effect. There are many rich people but are unhappy.

Therefore, some ways to stay happy are as follows:

  1. Get creatively engaged in economic pursuit.
  2. Pursue a hobby or passion
  3. Engage with family and/or friends occasionally
  4. Practice meditation/solitude
